About the SD Envirothon
The South Dakota Envirothon is an environmental science/natural resources competition for teams of high school students. Teams compete in knowledge and skills related to soil, water, forestry and wildlife .
Teams also compete by giving a presentation on a Current Issue which is selected annually by the North American Envirothon national office.
The winning team from the state competition goes to the North American competition in late July/August where they will test their mettle against teams from across the US and Canada.
We invite teachers and 4H leaders to recruit a team of five to six high school students (5 team members plus one alternate) to bring to the SD Envirothon.
To support the local program, the SD Envirothon (SDE) offers the following:
- Substitute reimbursement if adult leader is a classroom teacher.
- Resource Binder with contacts and information to help your team prepare for Envirothon!
Building an Envirothon program is a collective effort requiring the participation of organizers, sponsors, volunteers, educators, school administrators and most of all students.
Our state program is based upon the NCF Envirothon which hosts teams from all over North America, and recently, China! Envirothon is going global and there is interest from other countries wanting to take part in this unique, natural resources education competition!
